Partial payment received: remaining balance email templates
What this does
This page gives you three ready-to-copy emails to confirm a partial payment, request the remaining invoice balance, and follow up if the balance is past due. Fill in the [brackets] and send from your own email. Free, no sign-up.
Acknowledge what arrived, show what is still owed, and ask for a clear payment date. Keep the tone polite and the numbers easy to check.
For example, a $1,200 invoice with a $400 payment leaves an $800 balance. For a net 30 invoice, use the original due date unless you agreed to a new schedule. Choose the email that matches whether the balance is due soon, already past due, or payable in agreed installments.
Open the free reminder writer For a general follow-up, enter only the remaining balance and the actual due date. The tool does not track partial payments or include the payment breakdown below.

Replace every [bracketed field]. Use the installment version only when you have already agreed to that schedule.

What to do next
- Match the received payment to the invoice and check the math. Include any earlier payments or agreed credits when calculating the balance.
- Attach an updated invoice showing the original total, payments received, and amount still due. Keep the invoice number consistent.
- Send the email to your contact and, if relevant, accounts payable. Include the payment methods you actually accept, such as ACH or check.
- Set a reminder for the date you requested. If there is no reply, call to confirm the invoice reached the right person. Confirm any revised payment schedule in writing.
Quick answers
Does a partial payment change a net 30 due date?
Use the due date on your invoice unless you and the client have agreed to a different date. If you agree to installments, confirm each amount and due date in writing.
What should a remaining balance email include?
Include the invoice number, original total, payment received, remaining balance, due date, and payment instructions. Attach an updated invoice showing the payment credit so the client can check the numbers.
