Small Bot Fix Templates Invoice 60 days overdue
Email for an invoice 60 days overdue
Two months late is past the gentle-nudge stage. This email is calm and firm: it states the facts, gives a pay link and a clear deadline, and leaves a door open for a payment plan.
Use it when earlier reminders haven't worked. If this is the first time you've chased this invoice, start with the friendly reminder instead: the client may simply have missed it.

Subject: Invoice #[invoice number] is 60 days overdue ([amount])
Hi [client name], Invoice #[invoice number] for [amount] was due on [due date] and is now 60 days overdue. I've sent reminders on [dates of your earlier reminders] and haven't had a reply. You can pay here: [pay link] Please pay in full by [a date 7 days from today], or reply by then with a date when you can pay. If paying in two parts would help, tell me and we can agree it. Until this is settled, I can't start any new work for you. Regards, [your name]
Subject: Checking in: invoice #[invoice number] ([amount])
Hi [client name], I'm checking in on invoice #[invoice number] for [amount], which was due on [due date]. It's now about two months overdue, and I want to make sure it hasn't got stuck somewhere. You can pay here: [pay link] Could you let me know by [a date 7 days from today] when I can expect payment? If the invoice needs to go to someone else, or a payment plan would help, just tell me and I'll sort it. Thanks, [your name]
The tool writes its own day 30 final notice rather than this exact text. It uses the real number of days, so with a due date 60 days ago it says "60 days overdue".
Tips
- Send it to whoever pays invoices as well as your usual contact. At bigger clients that's often accounts payable.
- Name a specific date, not "soon". A date gives them something to act on.
- Only mention a late fee or interest if your contract or invoice terms already allow one. These templates never add one.
- Only say what you'll do next if you will. Pausing new work is usually the real lever a freelancer has. Beyond that, your options depend on the amount, your contract and your state, so ask a lawyer or your local small business advisers.
- Pick up the phone. At 60 days, a short call often gets further than another email.
Quick answers
What should I say when an invoice is 60 days overdue?
State the invoice number, amount, due date and how late it is, mention your earlier reminders, give a pay link and a specific deadline, and name the one next step you will actually take, such as pausing new work.
Should I offer a payment plan for a 60-day overdue invoice?
It can help. Offering to split the balance into two parts gives a client who is short of cash a way to say yes. Agree the amounts and dates in writing.
